Swifton Summary

Swifton is a city located in Jackson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Swifton was founded in 1883 by the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway. The town was named after the Swift family, who owned the land on which the town was built. The town was incorporated in 1887.

Geography

Swifton is located at 35°45'25" North, 90°45'25" West (35.756944, -90.756944). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Swifton is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density was 602.3 people per square mile (232.3/km2). There were 233 housing units at an average density of 256.3 per square mile (98.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.37% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
