Heflin Summary

Heflin is a city located in Cleburne County, Alabama, United States. It is the county seat of Cleburne County. The population was 3,480 at the 2010 census.

History

Heflin was founded in 1867 and named after Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. The city was incorporated in 1872. The city was the site of a major battle during the Civil War, the Battle of Heflin.

Geography

Heflin is located at 33°41'25" North, 85°37'25" West (33.690278, -85.62361). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all land.

Economy

Heflin is home to several businesses, including a lumber mill, a furniture factory, and a manufacturing plant. The city also has a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other services.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,480 people, 1,521 households, and 945 families residing in the city. The population density was 668.3 people per square mile (258.3/km2). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 332.7 per square mile (128.3/km2).
